    Charles “Mike” Kautz, 80, of Lone Tree, died Friday, June 17, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. A Celebrate of Life Service was held Monday, June 20, at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Lone Tree. Immediately following the service, a time of food and fellowship was held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Burial will be held at a later date in the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday, June 19, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lone Tree Fire and Rescue or the Lone Tree Athletic Boosters in memory of Mike.     Entries are wanted for the Open Class Division of the Washington County Fair. Some of the many classes are art and photography, all crafts, all types of needlework and quilts, woodworking, culinary, flowers, vegetables, and plants as well as dried arrangements. The largest vegetable contest will be held again this year.

    A new home girls softball dugout was installed recently with all of the labor and much of the materials donated by Chad Mellinger, Jason Anderson, Rich Schneider, Carrie and Jeff Wieland, Ron Miller, Roger Brand, Todd Kienast, Iowa City Ready Mix with Steve Downes donating concrete and Chris and Matt Hoenig.
  • Highland softball team wins three in conference action

    The Highland softball team traveled to Pekin Tuesday, June 14, and came home with a victory after shutting out their opponents 6-0.
    Megan Hoenig got the win giving up three hits and striking out three and walking two. The team offensively had 13 hits, was struck out seven times and committed two errors.
  • Highland baseball team goes .500 for week
    Wednesday, June 22, 2016 3:10 PM
    The Highland baseball team lost to Pekin in extra innings Tuesday, June 14, by a final score of 3-4. Chase Rath pitched seven innings giving up three runs on two hits. He walked four and struck out five.
